Armenian-Syrian worshippers celebrated Orthodox Christmas in Aleppo on Sunday, two years after the city’s liberation.

People flocked to the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Holy Mother of God to mark Christmas Day, which is celebrated on January 6 according to the Armenian Orthodox calendar.

"The celebrations are more beautiful this year, it is safe, we are feeling the difference more and more every year. We feel that people are coming back [home]. Safety is more evident," said Marita Ohanisian.

For Igil Boshnezian, a Syrian mother whose son was killed during the Syrian conflict, "celebrations renew wounds."

As "martyrdom has its value, this is an honour for the family and the homeland," she added.

"I wish peace and love for Syria and for the entire world. A true celebration would be when we liberate all our taken lands," she concluded.
